The Evolving Nature of Semi-passive Mine Water Treatment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Abstract Passive mine water treatment technologies were originally developed to treat small flows of with low moderate acidity and metal loadings. Gradually, semi-passive adaptations refinements, such as occasionally adding amendments enhance processes, have allowed passive systems be used at a greater range sites. This paper addresses the largely unwritten history its potential future.

Passive Treatment of Acid-Mine Drainage
Introduction Acidic mine drainage (AMD; also called “acid rock drainage” or “acid drainage”) is an environmental pollutant that impairs water resources in mining regions throughout the world. Where such treatment is required legally, treatment must be efficient and continual. Treatment methods are commonly divided into either “active,” meaning reliance on the addition of alkaline chemicals to n...

متن کاملThe microbiology of passive remediation technologies for mine drainage treatment
Water draining abandoned mines or mine sites is often acidic and contains relatively high concentrations of dissolved metals and sulfate. Such water (AMD) arises from the oxidative dissolution of sulfidic minerals, such as iron pyrite (FeS2), exposed by mining activities. As AMD production can occur over a very long time scale, passive remediation systems are becoming increasingly important in ...
متن کاملLong-term Performance of Passive Acid Mine Drainage Treatment Systems
State and federal reclamation programs, mining operators, and citizen-based watershed organizations have constructed hundreds of passive systems in the eastern U.S. over the past 20 years to provide reliable, low cost, low maintenance mine water treatment in remote locations. While performance has been reported for individual systems, there has not been a comprehensive evaluation of the perform...

gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...
